Notes on "No See Um"

NK: One of the only truly horrible things about Captiva were the tiny bugs, appropriately named No See Ums, that ravaged the feet and lower legs of most residents (Lisa never got a single bite). You don’t realize initially that you’ve been bitten; a few days later, it’s torture and you will try anything to make it stop. This song was a coping mechanism.

LL: I had spent Thanksgiving away, and on my drive back to the res, Nina sent me her sketch of No See Um and a version of "Moon River," the song it’s based on, sung by Audrey Hepburn. I was really taken by the sparse acoustic guitar and I wanted to model our version on this arrangement. We rehearsed and recorded this the same day I got back.
